Pie Time

We are drawing near to the end of voting for ‘Make My Pie’ and the competition is hotting up.

We’ve already had hundreds of votes for the final eight shortlisted pies, but there is still time to make sure your favourite is the one chosen to go on sale at Melrose and Morgan this Autumn.

This time we’ve asked the people behind the pies and our own Melrose and Morgan staff to tell us about the pie they think has got what it take to be a winner.

 

Make My Pie: The Shortlist

It’s decision time for you all pie lovers out there, as we arrive at the shortlist stage of our Make My Pie competition.

After a brilliant response and some excellent pie entries, our tough panel of Melrose and Morgan chefs have whittled down the list to a shortlist of their eight favourites.

Now, its over to you to decide which of these delicious sounding pies is going to make it through to development, before it goes on sale later this year.

Will it be the indulgent ‘Autumnal’ or ‘Rabbit’ pies, exotic ‘ChiChoChi’ or ‘Spice of Life’ pies, taste of summer ‘Primavera’, vegetarian ‘Squtternut Bosch’ or old favourites ‘English Breakfast’ and ‘Sunday Lunch’ pies?

Our Executive Chef, Caleb Laws who headed up the judging panel, said of the shortlist;

“The Make My Pie competition entries really were top notch. There were some fantastic sweet and savoury pie ideas, but it was the innovative savoury creations which really got our attention. I went for strong flavours with classic, but interesting combinations. As a pie-mad New Zealander I cannot wait to start developing the winning pie!”

The winning entry will get to see their pie on sale at Melrose and Morgan, credited to them as the winner, for a limited run over the month of October. The winner will also receive £100 in Melrose and Morgan vouchers to spend anytime they like.

Voting closes on 31st May.

Make My Pie

What could beat the comforting warmth of a delicious pie? It’s part of our heritage and something worth celebrating as far as we are concerned. Given that this week is National Pie Week (5-11 March) we thought it was a great excuse to give our customers the chance to help develop a brand new pie for Melrose and Morgan in our ‘Make My Pie’ competition.

We want you to get creative in the kitchen and tell us about your favourite recipe or ultimate pie idea. The winning recipe will go on sale, credited to you as the pie creator, for a limited run at our two stores this Autumn. Alongside that the winner will also bag £100 in Melrose and Morgan vouchers to spend at any time.

To add to the excitement, we’ve also got a brand new Beef and Chorizo Pie on the menu for March; delicious, melting slow cooked beef and Brindisa chorizo dulce in a rich sherry gravy under a crisp puff pastry lid. Great with our new Spring Greens with Thyme Butter.

How to Enter:

  • Send us your pie recipe and a clear method for making your pie.
  • The pie can be sweet or savoury and have any sort of pastry or topping that you desire.
  • However, if you don’t have a recipe but you have a great idea for a pie, then we’d still be delighted to hear from you!
  • Your entries should be sent by email to: louisa@melroseandmorgan.com by no later than 31 March.

Make My Pie Terms and Conditions:

  • No purchase is necessary.
  • The My Pie competition is open to all our customers and so we are keen to hear from anyone, big or small, who has a burning ambition to see their favourite pie on sale at our shops.
  • Pie recipe ideas need to be submitted to louisa@melroseandmorgan.com on or before 31 March 2012.
  • Pie recipes will be judged by a panel of Melrose and Morgan chefs and a shortlist will be published.
  • Final judging on the winning pie will be made by our customers who will be asked to vote for the pie from the shortlist they would most like to see in our shops.
  • The winning pie idea will be put into development at our kitchens with a view to being sold at our shops during October 2012.
  • The pie will be credited to the winner via the label and we will document the winners story and the pie development and production through our blog.
  • The winner will also receive £100 Melrose and Morgan vouchers to spend at any time in our stores.
  • No other financial incentive will be offered in connection to the Make My Pie competition.
  • Melrose and Morgan will have the final say on the development of the winning Make My Pie recipe and this final recipe will remain the soul property of Melrose and Morgan.
