Apples, Crumbles and Pumpkins
It’s mid-autumn, the leaves are turning and there is a certain change in the air that makes us want to wrap up and take to the great outdoors.
If you are not content with picking the last few blackberries from the hedge, then the bumper crop at Chegworth Valley is still producing punnets for our shops at £4.25 /each. Alongside these short lived seasonal treats, we’ve also got purple fruiting Marjorie Seedling Plums, pale green and pink Victoria Plums, from £2.95 /punnet and Conference Pears, £3.60 /kg.
Plus, a host of lovely apples are arriving in time for Apple Day on 21st October, £3.60 /kg – all this hedgerow and orchard fruit is ideal for crumbles and pies, which we can’t get enough of at this time of year.
Chegworth Valley Red Kale, £2.75 /300g, our Cavolo Nero with Herb Butter, £3.95, are soon to be joining the autumn fruit harvest; iron rich and an ideal accompaniment for the hearty dishes coming back onto our menu; Duck Confit £5.95, Coq au Vin £7.95 and Smoky Butterbean Hotpot £3.25.
Not to mention, baby Blue Ballet, Red Kuri, Green Kabocha and Acorn squashes, yellow Carnival, speckled Confetti, long striped Delicata and small orange Sugar Pumpkins, all from our friend Greg at Forge Farm in Oxfordshire, £3.75 /kg.
